Job Overview

This part-time position involves working 16 hours per week, with clinic hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, without weekends or holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and document patient/family objective/subjective data and family data and observations, reporting pertinent findings to the RN Care Manager responsible for directing the patient's care.
  • Follow the plan of care appropriate to the developmental level of the patient.
  • Collaborate with the RN Care Manager directing the patient's care regarding appropriate tasks/nursing interventions.
  • Implement nursing interventions according to established standards, demonstrating competence in specified nursing care.
  • Administer and document medications by all routes, i.e., oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal, transdermal, rectal, and aerosol, utilizing the five rights and all other related safety recommendations.
  • Demonstrate basic written and verbal communication skills to convey nursing actions and patient's/family response.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical decision-making.
  • Communicate and document patient response to care.
  • Provide input into revision of plan and care based upon data collected and identified patient/family needs.
  • Following additional education, training, and demonstrated competency, selected LPN II's may perform venipunctures for the purpose of drawing blood only (not done in the inpatient units).
  • Following education, training, and demonstrated competency, LPN II's may perform the following IV therapy procedures:
    • Verification of the type of peripheral IV solution.
    • Examination of a peripheral infusion site.
    • Monitor and document the hourly amount of peripheral IV infusion according to the prescribed flow rate (rate changes are limited to RNs only).
    • Reset pumps and silence alarms.
    • Discontinuation of a peripheral IV device.
    • Performance of routine dressing changes at the insertion site of a peripheral infusion, a peripherally inserted venous catheter that has been sutured, or central line catheter.
    • Assembles tubing for both peripheral IVs and central venous catheters (does not include spiking bag or priming tubing).
    • The following practices are prohibited from LPN practice initiating and maintaining:
      • Blood and blood components.
      • Solutions for total parenteral nutrition.
