A Campus Security Officer is typically designated to a school facility to ensure the safety and protection of students, educators, and staff within the assigned premises. This role may involve assignments across various school locations based on the district's requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Communication Skills

  • Possess strong expressive and receptive English language abilities to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, and parents, and to appropriately respond to their inquiries.

Observational Skills

  • Capable of monitoring and observing students in a comprehensive classroom, gymnasium, or cafeteria setting to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Able to visually or otherwise interpret written materials and respond both verbally and in writing.
  • Skilled in understanding and reacting to verbal cues from others, even in noisy environments with multiple speakers and background sounds.

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to navigate various indoor surfaces, including hard floors and industrial carpeting, and to maintain a brisk walking pace over extended distances without needing to pause.
  • Capable of moving outdoors, sometimes on uneven terrain, to supervise students in external settings.
  • Able to work outside for prolonged periods, occasionally in extreme weather conditions.

Cognitive Skills

  • Exhibit behavior that aligns with social norms, serving as a positive role model for young and impressionable students.
  • Ability to comprehend complex verbal and written instructions and execute them effectively.
  • Possess strong executive functioning skills to ensure timely and accurate compliance with detailed record-keeping requirements at federal, state, and local levels.

Additional Responsibilities:

Attendance Requirements

  • Ability to fulfill the daily contracted hours and maintain physical presence at the assigned location throughout the contract duration.

Other Duties:

  • Assess and provide recommendations to administration regarding student safety and campus security based on established best practices.
  • React promptly to emergencies.
  • Meet performance standards as outlined in the evaluation process.
  • Complete the essential functions listed above.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
