Position Overview: The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist is a proficient professional responsible for utilizing advanced MRI technology to generate diagnostic images that assist radiologists in identifying various medical conditions. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology, along with a high level of technical skill and the ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review patient orders prior to procedures to ensure accuracy and prevent delays in care.
- Deliver exceptional patient service by educating and preparing individuals for their MRI procedures while ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Collect and document detailed patient medical histories to support radiologist evaluations.
- Maintain patient comfort and safety throughout the imaging process.
- Conduct MRI scans as per physician directives.
- Execute complex tasks related to MRI operation and related equipment to capture high-quality images.
- Initiate IV access, operate power injectors, and administer contrast media as required.
- Complete necessary documentation in the hospital information system.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of imaging equipment.
- May assist in mentoring and training new staff or students.

Imaging departments may require participation in on-call and holiday rotations. Technologists are expected to cover various outpatient and hospital locations as needed.
Educational Requirements:
- Completion of a Radiologic Technology Associate's degree or an MRI technology certification program.
Experience Requirements:
- Preferred minimum of one (1) year of MRI experience.
Licensure/Certification:
- ARRT (R) certification is mandatory.
- ARRT (MR) certification is required or registry eligible (must obtain MR certification within 24 months of hire or transfer).
- Preferred certification from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA) in Radiography.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required to be completed within 30 calendar days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possess a strong understanding of anatomical positioning, MRI safety protocols, critical thinking, time management, effective communication, and proficiency in IV access for contrast media administration.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the employee to frequently stand, sit, and walk; occasionally use hands and fingers; and frequently communicate verbally. The employee must be able to exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
