Williamsburg Landing, a CARF-accredited Life Plan Community, is seeking a Full-Time experienced Culinary Specialist to design and prepare meals for residents, guests, and staff using standardized recipes. This role ensures that nutritious meals are served at the appropriate times while maintaining flavor, presentation, and temperature.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, including meats, vegetables, soups, and sauces, adhering to standardized recipes.
- Maintain high standards of food quality and portion control during preparation and service.
- Follow provided menus, making adjustments only with the approval of the Executive Sous Chef.
- Assist in the setup of the kitchen line as needed.
- Ensure timely preparation and serving of sufficient quantities of food to meet service demands.
- Uphold sanitation and safety standards in food preparation areas.
- Prepare meals for takeout according to dietary specifications.
- Utilize leftover ingredients as directed by the Executive Sous Chef.
- Clean and maintain kitchen utensils and equipment as necessary.
- Supervise and assist in the cleaning of cooking areas and kitchen facilities.
- Report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor.
- Prepare food for special events and functions as assigned.
- Conduct daily checks of refrigeration units to ensure proper food storage and labeling.
- Foster positive interactions with residents, guests, and fellow employees.
- Assume supervisory responsibilities for kitchen staff in the absence of the Executive Sous Chef or Executive Chef.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures regarding conduct, safety, and hygiene.
- Maintain personal cleanliness and wear the appropriate uniform during shifts.
- Follow the assigned schedule, consistently arriving on time.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; a Culinary Arts degree is preferred. Candidates should have 3-5 years of experience in a large-scale kitchen, ideally serving individuals with diverse dietary needs. A Food Handlers' Card is required, and SERVSAFE certification is recommended.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read, write, and perform calculations related to standardized recipes; follow written and verbal instructions; plan food preparation to ensure nutritional meals are served correctly; maintain effective communication and relationships with staff, residents, and visitors; withstand heat from cooking equipment and cold from refrigeration; safely use kitchen equipment; regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds; work efficiently and accurately; and stand for extended periods while performing various tasks.
Work Schedule:
The Dining Services Department operates seven days a week, 14 hours a day. All employees are expected to work on any day of the week, including holidays, according to the schedule developed to meet departmental needs.
