Job Summary
Under the supervision of an RN, performs various clinical tasks and nursing interventions as addressed on the care plan, reviewing and revising the nurse's care plan as necessary.
Responsibilities- Monitors each patient for physical and psychosocial needs, altering the plan of care as discussed with the RN and contributing to acuity levels, preparing for OR procedures, and special procedures.
- Administers medication via all routes, performs venipuncture and IV therapy after completing required training.
- Directs and assists in supervising Nursing Assistants and UC staff.
- Provides nutritional support as needed (oral, enteral, peripheral), except Hyperalimentation.
- Evaluates, communicates, and documents care delivered to other healthcare team members through shift report, nursing care plans, progress notes/nursing notes, direct communications to team members, etc.
- Inserts, monitors, and maintains NG tubes, urinary catheters, etc.
- Assists physicians with exams, dressing changes, etc. as necessary.
- Receives physicians' orders, records, and completes them.
- Assists with discharge instructions to patients and/or family members regarding necessary information to continue care at home.
- Utilizes Infection Control and safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment.
- Recognizes emergency situations and responds appropriately.
- Reviews and performs shift assessments, reporting any variations/concerns to the RN.
- Gives and receives report on assigned patients.
- May be required to perform other assignments from time to time as requested by the Department Leader.
- Current Virginia License at time of hire date or must be able to show eligibility for licensure.
- No previous clinically related nursing experience required; completion of a general orientation program within 30 days of hire date and unit-specific orientation.
- Must meet and maintain proficiency requirements of the unit; CPR card holder required.
The estimated salary range for this position is $55,000-$70,000 annually, based on location and experience. A bonus may also be offered for exceptional performance.
