GENERAL OVERVIEW
This role is situated within a premier park, renowned for its rich archeological significance, diverse flora and fauna, and recreational opportunities. The position is crucial in maintaining facilities that cater to numerous visitors annually while educating them on the importance of preserving this unique environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of the Park Superintendent, this position entails advanced supervisory responsibilities in maintenance and construction. The individual will:
- Lead maintenance teams and park volunteers, providing direction, scheduling tasks, and assisting with daily upkeep and repairs of facilities, grounds, and equipment.
- Act as the Utility Plant Operator (UPO), overseeing routine maintenance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing repairs of the park's water system and other utilities.
- Prepare reports, train staff, and perform general maintenance and custodial tasks, including purchasing, revenue collection, issuing permits, and delivering customer service.
- Assist in enforcing park regulations through voluntary compliance, engage in resource management, and educate visitors about the park's natural and cultural assets.
- Work independently with a significant degree of initiative and judgment, while performing additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements:
Education: High School diploma or GED.
Experience: A minimum of four years in facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance, alongside two years in a supervisory or team leadership role, which may encompass oversight of paid staff, volunteers, or alternative workforces.
Licensure: A valid State driver's license is required. The candidate must obtain a class 'D' Water and/or Wastewater license from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within one year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience: Working with the public, familiarity with water and/or wastewater systems, and experience in a public park or historic site focused on natural and cultural resource conservation.
Language: Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking fluent Spanish is preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of advanced construction, repair, and maintenance techniques, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, utility management, masonry, and mechanical repairs. Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to provide exceptional customer service, maintain effective working relationships, and manage multiple projects efficiently.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires working in a public park setting, with a commitment to a 40-hour work week that may include varied schedules and on-call responsibilities. The role involves outdoor work in diverse weather conditions and physical labor, including lifting materials up to 50 lbs. The candidate must be prepared to operate state vehicles and equipment and may require occasional travel for training purposes.
