Job Overview

The role of a Senior Packaging Scientist involves organizing, planning, and executing research initiatives focused on packaging technologies that contribute to innovative and effective packaging solutions aligned with corporate objectives. This position offers technical guidance and support to both professional and non-professional staff, while independently overseeing the activities of research technicians and mentoring junior Packaging Scientists.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Proactively identify, initiate, design, and manage research projects in packaging, leading to the creation and implementation of novel packaging systems. This requires staying updated on cutting-edge packaging technologies and assessing their applicability to our product lines.
  • Develop and execute cost-saving strategies for packaging by analyzing enhancements to materials and design considerations aimed at reducing product-related expenses.
  • Act as a technical resource and problem-solver for complex packaging challenges that exceed the capabilities of plant or corporate personnel, providing consultation to other Package Development Scientists.
  • Effectively supervise and guide the daily operations of the research team.
  • Initiate and manage systems that enhance packaging efficiency across the organization, including maintaining comprehensive packaging specifications and developing software for critical data collection on packaging materials.
  • Collaborate with various departments such as Engineering, Operations, Marketing, and Purchasing to apply packaging technology effectively, ensuring integration with vendor and supplier processes.
Qualifications:

The level of the position (Senior Scientist, Associate Research Scientist, Research Scientist) will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in packaging science or engineering. Advanced degrees (PhD or MS) in Packaging are advantageous.
  • Strong project management abilities with a proven track record of leading projects effectively.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation, initiative, and innovative thinking.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Understanding of fundamental scientific principles.
  • Excellent analytical, time management, and documentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including effective team-building capabilities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or possess authorization to work in the United States.
