Software Engineer for Medical Devices

San Diego, California, United States Better Hire Full time
About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our team in developing software for medical devices. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing software solutions that meet the high standards of our clients in the medical industry.

Your primary focus will be on gathering requirements from clients, designing software architecture, implementing it, testing it, analyzing risks, and documenting your work. Additionally, you will be responsible for reviewing other engineers' code and having your own code reviewed as well.

Since we operate in a regulated industry, you will need to learn about the relevant standards and regulations to be effective in this role. Don't worry if you don't know them yet - most are reasonable and simply require companies to follow best practices.

About the Team

You will be working with one of our clients, helping them write software for their medical devices. Most projects follow an agile process, and we demo progress to clients once a week.

We value collaboration and teamwork, so you will often work alongside the client's engineering team or as part of a small team of engineers.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least three years of full-time software-engineering experience.
  • Deep understanding of at least one programming language.
  • Familiarity with web-development basics (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript).
  • Capable and interested in learning new technologies quickly and independently.
  • Will to learn about medical devices and the regulations that apply to them.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English via Slack, email, and video calls.
  • Willingness to travel a couple of times a year.
  • Residency in the United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii).

While experience with Python, TypeScript, C++, Django, TensorFlow, React, and Qt would be helpful, it is not required. We encourage applications from candidates who are eager to learn and grow with us.

About Compensation

The estimated annual salary for this position is around $120,000, depending on location and experience.

Please note that compensation may vary based on individual circumstances, and we strive to offer competitive salaries that reflect the value you bring to our team.
