Job Summary

The Fire Sprinkler Designer will use CAD equipment to provide support to the Engineering department by preparing routine layouts of fire sprinkler systems, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, and diagrams. This position is responsible for designing fire protection sprinkler systems with accuracy and detail to enable field installation with minimal design errors.

Responsibilities
  • Make copies of drawings and maintain information regarding changes to the database
  • Design fire protection sprinkler systems with accuracy and detail
  • Review work orders and procedural manuals to determine critical dimensions of design
  • Calculate figures to convert design dimensions to resizing dimensions specified for subsequent production, layout, and installation processes
  • Submit design plans to proper department leadership for approval and obtain permits as required
  • Confer with engineering and design staff to determine design modifications and enter editing information into the computer
  • Key in specified information to produce graphic representation (hard copy) of design for review and approval by engineering and design staff
  • Make final sketches of proposed drawings, checking dimensions of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to the whole structure or project
  • Revise size, shape, and arrangement of parts to create practical design drawings
  • Sketch rough layouts of systems and compute angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location of holes
  • Draft detailed multi-view drawings of layouts and systems
Requirements
  • NICET level II or higher, Fire Protection Industry licensing or equivalent
  • Experience in the fire protection design field required
  • Solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with design and fire sprinkler terminology
  • Ability to read blueprints for fire sprinkler layout
  • Ability to make technical presentations internally and to customers
  • Must have a sound working knowledge of NFPA 13 and related codes
  • Experience with AutoCAD and AutoSprink, HydraCAD, or SprinkCAD
  • The ability to learn applicable installation, inspection, and servicing codes
Preferred Qualifications
  • Applicable experience either in the fire protection industry or the commercial customer service business in some capacity
  • An ability to provide services across multiple product lines
  • Working habits and personal appearance which are both neat and well organized
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
