About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Tenant Navigator to join our Homeless Outreach team at Guild. As a Tenant Navigator, you will play a critical role in providing direct support and services to individuals with serious mental illness and substance use disorder who are living in shelters, on the street, or at-risk of homelessness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Creative Problem Solving: Identify essential factors in housing situations and engage individuals in solutions.
  • Rapport Building: Establish rapport with participants who live within a culture of poverty, have a mental illness, and/or a chemical health issue.
  • Communication: Develop and maintain receptive, open, and approachable lines of communication with clients, social service providers, community providers, and county staff.
  • Relationship Building: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others.
  • Flexibility and Creativity: Be flexible, think creatively, and explore new alternatives.
  • Task Completion: Take a task from start to finish and follow up with others to assure the task is complete.
Requirements
  • Advanced Communication Skills: Possess advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with clients, multidisciplinary teams, and other providers to create and implement strategies.
  • Critical Thinking: Apply critical thinking skills to solve complex problems and identify immediate responses to urgent situations.
  • Self-Motivation: Self-motivate, managing competing priorities, and adhere to deadlines.
  • Judgment: Exercising judgment, knowing when to use own discretion and when to seek supervision and guidance.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in computer applications and database applications for documentation and research.
  • Teaching and Facilitation: Teaching and group facilitation, especially around housing issues and skills needed for successful tenancy.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma: Possess a High School Diploma.
  • Qualifications: Qualified as a Community Health Worker, Peer Support Specialist, Case Management Associate, or Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years' personal or working experience related to the SPMI/SMI population, substance abuse, and/or the homeless population.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: Experience working with persons with serious mental illness and/or homelessness.
  • Bachelor's Degree: Possess a Bachelor's degree.
Additional Requirements
  • Driver's License: Possess a valid Class 'D' Driver's License, reliable vehicle, satisfactory driving record, and necessary insurance.
  • CPR and First Aid: Ability to perform CPR and First Aid, and respond to emergency situations.
  • No Previous Services: Must not have received services from Guild Incorporated within the last two years.
Working Conditions

This position is based at Guild's Apartments in the St. Paul Area. The position requires the ability to go up and down stairs to the tenants door as there is not an elevator. This requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The position has the potential to come into contact with bodily fluids and/or communicable diseases and/or tobacco smoke.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged Sitting: Prolonged periods at a desk, working on a computer.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift and carry heavy weights that could be up to or even exceed 40 pounds.
  • Walking: Ability to walk up and down stairs frequently throughout the day.
  • Manual Dexterity: Manual dexterity for tasks such as taking notes, using technological devices for documentation, or assisting clients with certain activities if needed.
