Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse plays a critical role in assessing, coordinating, planning, directing, implementing, and managing the care of assigned patients throughout their healthcare journey, with a strong emphasis on facilitating progress towards discharge, particularly during transitions within the acute care environment.
The Registered Nurse is accountable for the delivery and coordination of patient care executed by the caregiving team.
They ensure that competent and compassionate care is consistently provided to all stakeholders, including referring facilities, hospital personnel, and patients across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.
The Medical Cardiology unit encompasses a 29-bed facility, featuring 1 private room, 13 semi-private rooms, and one 4-bed room.
Patients are admitted from various sources, including the Emergency Department, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, CCU, MICU, physician offices, and other healthcare facilities when inpatient care is warranted.
The demographic served includes both male and female patients, presenting with acute and chronic conditions across a spectrum of cardiac and medical diagnoses.
Most patients require telemetry monitoring following minimally invasive and invasive cardiac interventions, with an age range spanning from young adults (18 years) to geriatric patients.Key Responsibilities:
1. Execute physician orders, administer medications, initiate IVs, perform treatments, procedures, and special tests, documenting care as mandated by organizational policies and local/state/federal regulations.
2. Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient conditions.
3. Assess and evaluate patient needs and responses to care provided.
4. Utilize sound nursing judgment in managing patient care decisions.
5. Provide primary and emergency care for both occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
6. Administer over-the-counter and prescription medications as prescribed.
7. Collaborate with the nursing team to develop a comprehensive Plan of Care for all patients.
8. Direct and guide ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program resulting in a Diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree.
Must possess a current NYS Registered Nurse license.
Must obtain and maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Prior experience as a PCA or in a nursing assistance role is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to enhance job performance through ongoing education.
Possesses knowledge of quality concepts, principles, and problem-solving tools and techniques, demonstrating the ability to apply these in support of departmental and patient care quality improvement.
