Position Summary:

This role involves working on exterior building design, from foundation to rooftop. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to identify potential construction or installation challenges that may necessitate adjustments to standard design practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Comprehend the various phases of exterior wall construction projects, including shop drawings, modeling, design development, and construction documentation.
  • Conduct field reviews and progress inspections on assigned projects.
  • Perform detailed forensic investigations and analyses of any construction failures or defects when necessary.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including reports, schedules, and work estimates.
  • Execute weekly site observations, focusing on:
    • Below-grade waterproofing
    • Vapor barriers and pipe penetrations beneath slabs
    • Pre-installation observations of Shotcrete walls
    • Building cladding inspections, including vinyl siding, stucco, EIFS, and masonry
    • Window application inspections during installation
    • Roofing component evaluations before, during, and after application
    • Document all observations and conditions with detailed field notes and photographs
    • Address contractual issues as they arise
    • Guide workers in executing repairs for non-conformance
    • Draft Construction Field Directives and Professional Service Agreements
    • Outline Scopes of Work
    • Provide minimal oversight to administrative staff
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering (Architectural, Civil, or Mechanical preferred)
  • 1-3 years of experience in building envelope design, inspection, development, or engineering
  • Familiarity with current codes and standards
  • Knowledge of waterproofing, exterior cladding, and building envelope components is advantageous
  • Understanding of architectural design theories and structural concepts related to exterior wall construction
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office and modeling/drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, BIM)

Preferred Skills: Experience with Infra-Red, Wind Uplift Chamber, Air Barrier Testing, and Window Testing. Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification is a plus.
