Job Title: Assistant County Attorney

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong understanding of legal principles and procedures. As an Assistant County Attorney, you will be responsible for performing varied legal functions in support of assigned criminal, civil, or juvenile docket.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prosecute criminal matters on behalf of the State of Iowa and of Story County.
  • Review criminal investigations as requested by law enforcement agencies.
  • Provide training to law enforcement on legal updates, trial matters, and investigatory updates.
  • Provide information to the public when on call with law enforcement related questions.
  • Respond to litigation post-conviction relief actions.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of law.
  • Current membership in the State Bar of Iowa.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an clerkship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Story County offers a comprehensive benefits package for employees regularly working 30 hours or more per week. Benefits are pro-rated for employees working between 30-39 hours per week.
