Job Overview

The Broadcast Production Specialist is responsible for creating live transmissions of municipal meetings. This role involves video documentation and editing of features, events, promotional interviews, and Public Service Announcements (PSAs).

Key Responsibilities

An individual in this position may be tasked with any or all of the following essential duties:

Daily Responsibilities:
  • Facilitates the video and production of live broadcast/replay of municipal meetings.
  • Operates video recording equipment including automated camera systems, laptops, monitors, audio boards, video switchers, and any other necessary technology for television coverage of municipal meetings.
  • Conducts a pre-meeting inspection of the meeting space and control room to ensure all systems are ready for use.
  • Prepares subtitles and other textual content in advance of meetings.
  • Ensures that duplicate copies of videos are created and distributed.
  • Assists in the production of original programming for the municipality.
  • May contribute ideas for new productions.
  • May assist in formulating interview questions for programs.
  • Records on-air interviews and other footage for original programming and archives.
  • May edit raw footage to incorporate music, titles, and credits to produce a polished final product.
Regular Duties:
  • Perform other assigned tasks as necessary.
Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School diploma or G.E.D.
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in audio-visual equipment maintenance and installation is preferred.
Certification: Valid MN Class D Driver's License or equivalent.
Supervisory Responsibility: Direct: (0); Indirect: May assist in training peers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

An individual in this role must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities upon application:
Knowledge:
  • Professional video equipment for producing cable programming.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, editing software, and videography.
  • Understanding of audio-visual and television engineering with the ability to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of municipal functions, policies, and procedures.
Skills:
  • Non-linear editing and video camera operation skills.
  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow and convey complex oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
Abilities:
  • Adapt to new and challenging projects.
  • Manage multiple tasks while maintaining high productivity.
  • Organize, file, and retrieve recorded materials efficiently.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Work independently and provide project updates to supervisors.
