The Surgical Technologist 2 plays a crucial role in the perioperative phase of patient care, ensuring the smooth execution of surgical procedures under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. This position requires the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, utilizing equipment and instrumentation to maintain a safe operating room environment.
Key Responsibilities- Discuss special needs with the surgeon prior to surgery and prepare for the procedure in a timely manner.
- Prepare the operative site by cleaning and clipping the patient, as needed.
- Organize and maintain the instrument table to prevent damage to instrumentation and ensure accurate counts.
- Set up the operating room according to surgical procedure schedules, arranging sterile supplies and equipment as required.
- Ensure the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during procedures.
- Perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and miscellaneous items, adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team, passing sterile supplies and equipment as needed.
- Assist with draping and positioning the patient, and receive surgical specimens following specimen protocol.
- Disassemble and recycle surgical instrumentation, and dispose of sharps, fluids, and waste properly.
- Clean and maintain the operating room, returning equipment to storage areas.
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
- Less than 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification from NBSTSA or NCCT, or completion of formal training in ST from Military/Public Health Service, or employment in a ST role in a healthcare facility prior to 9/1/2009.
