Job Title: Bus Aide - Special Education Support

At Palmer Bus Financial Management Inc, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Bus Aide to join our team. As a Bus Aide, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of special education students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist Bus Driver in Emergency Situations: Provide support to the bus driver in handling emergency situations, such as medical emergencies or accidents, until the driver can take over.
  • Support Special Education Students: Assist special education students with loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Monitor Students with Special Needs: Provide close supervision to students with special needs until they are released to their teacher, instructional assistant, parent, or other authorized personnel.
  • Document Activities: Maintain accurate records of activities, incidents, and observations, providing written references and conveying information as needed.
  • Report Incidents: Document and report any incidents, such as discipline issues, accidents, or inappropriate behavior, to the appropriate personnel for their action.
  • Secure Students and Equipment: Ensure the safety and well-being of students by securing their equipment, such as restraints, wheelchairs, and seatbelts.
Requirements:
  • Physical Demands: The job requires lifting up to 40 lbs to waist height, reaching up to five feet, occasional carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Strong knowledge of safety practices and procedures, understanding of emergency evacuation techniques, basic first aid and CPR certification, knowledge of health standards and hazards, and understanding of state regulations and laws pertaining to school bus operation and child behavior.
