The Indian Health Service is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacist to serve as an Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist. This position is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to patients in the hospital and ambulatory areas, ensuring the safe and effective use of medication. The successful candidate will work independently to provide direct care to patients, utilize prescriptive authority to dispense medications, and advise healthcare providers on medication selection, dosages, interactions, and side effects.
Key Responsibilities- Provide pharmaceutical care to patients in the hospital and ambulatory areas
- Utilize prescriptive authority to dispense medications
- Advise healthcare providers on medication selection, dosages, interactions, and side effects
- Monitor patient health and progress to ensure safe and effective medication use
- Perform drug and component compounding
- Serve as a liaison between Infection Control Service, Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, Pathology and Laboratory Service, and Pharmacy Service
- Consult with healthcare providers on medication programs and regimens
- Develop and implement the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program
- Collaborate with Clinical Application Coordinators and/or Pharmacy Informaticist to update antimicrobial order sets and algorithms
- Doctoral degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution
- Licensure to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
- Minimum of one year of professional pharmacy experience
- Completed 2 years of residency in Infectious Disease or Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy or Infectious Disease or have 3 years clinical experience in inpatient pharmacy and working with an Antimicrobial Stewardship Program
This position is being announced concurrently under Direct Hire Authority procedures. Please review vacancy announcement number IHS-24-GA-DHA for eligibility requirements. Selectee may be subject to a probationary/trial period. U.S. Citizenship is required. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. This is a designated position covered by Public Law, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required. Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty. The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. On-call hours or standby duty may be required. Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
