We are seeking a skilled Automotive Mechanic to join our team at the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing skilled tasks in servicing and repairing automobiles, trucks, rollers, sweepers, and other construction and maintenance equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Repairs and overhauls automobiles, trucks, tractors, air compressors, cement mixers, and other equipment.
- Operates various types of motor vehicles and applies a working knowledge of equipment systems, functions, and components.
- Repairs engines, transmissions, clutches, brakes, and all parts of automotive equipment.
- Checks and balances wheels for proper alignment.
- Analyzes, troubleshoots, and tests alternators, generators, and electrical system components on equipment.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, or rebuilds hydraulic systems.
- Keeps and reports on service and repair records.
- Inspects all PTC vehicles for compliance with state regulations.
- Completes diagnostic work on gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel engine systems.
- Performs emergency road-side service.
- Performs minor welding as required.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Completion of high school or equivalent certification.
- Valid Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) and must pass the Class A CDL road test by the end of the trial period or probationary period.
- Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Physical Card).
- Valid Class 4 or Class 7 Pennsylvania state inspection license; or Class 1 Pennsylvania state inspection license and obtain a valid Class 4 or Class 7 Pennsylvania state inspection license within 90 days of starting the position.
- A degree or certification in automotive technology from an accredited technical school; or three (3) years of experience as an automotive mechanic with experience in gasoline, diesel, or alternative fuel engine diagnostics, electronics, and hydraulic troubleshooting.
