About the Job

Labor Finders is seeking a skilled Welding Specialist to join our team. As a Welding Specialist, you will be responsible for performing a variety of welding tasks, including joining or cutting metal parts, inspecting structures, and maintaining equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use hand-held or remotely controlled welding equipment to join or cut metal parts, or fill holes, indentations, or the seams of metal products.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, or specifications and calculate dimensions to be welded.
  • Inspect structures or materials to be welded and monitor the welding process to avoid overheating.
  • Maintain equipment and machinery.
  • Work outdoors, often in inclement weather, on a scaffold or high platform.
  • May also work indoors in a confined indoor area designed to contain sparks and glare.
  • Lift heavy objects, work in awkward positions while bending, stooping, or standing to work overhead.
  • Work evenings or weekends, with 8 to 12-hour shifts each day.

Requirements

  • Be detailed oriented, have physical strength, hand-eye coordination, and ability to focus on job responsibilities.
  • Have manual dexterity and the ability to steadily hold a torch in one place.
  • Have good physical stamina and the ability to endure long periods of standing or making repetitious movements.
  • Build technical skills and training to operate welding equipment to fuse metal.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Be able to understand and communicate information.
  • Proficiency in English is essential.
  • Begin and complete an apprenticeship program upon starting the role (required).
  • Carry or lift heavy objects and to squat, kneel down, bend, or crawl in awkward positions.
  • Learn to use a variety of welding equipment and procedures, and electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.).
  • Gain knowledge of safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.).
  • Obtain general certification in welding or related certification - is extremely useful.
  • Have completed courses in blueprint reading, shop mathematics, mechanical drawing, physics, chemistry, and metallurgy - helpful, but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings - a strong bonus.
