About the Role

Nusano is seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Engineer to support the design, production, and testing of isotope production targets at a heavy-ion particle accelerator facility. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supporting engineering efforts towards the successful design of these targets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support multidisciplinary target design projects
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to establish target requirements
  • Interface with mechanical engineering, material science, manufacturing, and radiochemistry specialists to ensure target design requirements are met
  • Yield and product purity calculations
  • Support CFD and FEA modeling efforts to estimate target survivability
  • Design and oversee key measurements necessary for providing quality inputs and benchmarks to target models where possible
  • Oversee the irradiation of target prototypes in beam and analysis of targets post irradiation
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of engineering disciplines and solid knowledge of related disciplines including materials science and electro/mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Proficiency with Monte Carlo codes (MCNP6, PHITS, and/or GEANT4)
  • Familiarity with CFD and FEA calculations
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience with charged particle accelerators, targetry, and isotope production
  • Experience with radioactive material processing
  • Experience within a production engineering environment in the specification, development, and qualification production-based systems and equipment
  • Experience in requirements gathering and definition processes and tools
  • Experience with system requirements decomposition/system architecture design
  • Programming proficiency in Python and C languages
  • Experience with Attila4MC software
