Job Overview

Culinary Specialist

The Culinary Specialist serves as a vital partner in realizing the vision set forth by the Executive Chef. Central to this role is the meticulous execution of recipes and presentation, ensuring that each dish reflects your culinary expertise. Food is a cornerstone of community relationships, and your creations should be both visually appealing and delightful to the palate. The dining environment should always be welcoming, with a variety of food and beverage options readily available for those who are hungry. Building and nurturing connections within our community is essential, as familiarity among residents enhances overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to meal planning and guidelines as directed by the Executive Chef.
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the kitchen; cleaning tasks are as crucial as cooking responsibilities. Follow established cleaning protocols for daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual schedules.
  • Comply with all local and state regulations regarding health, sanitation, and infection control.
  • Proactively address and resolve any issues that arise, ensuring proper follow-up with relevant personnel.
  • Support the leadership team by completing necessary tasks to meet the needs of residents and staff.
  • Engage in physical activities such as standing, bending, and working at hot cooking stations as required for success in this role.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to adapt as needed and act appropriately in various situations.
  • A friendly demeanor and a collaborative spirit; a sense of humor is valued.
  • Responsiveness to the needs of residents, visitors, and staff.
  • Excellent customer service skills for effective interaction with the community.
  • Hospitality skills to ensure everyone feels welcomed and at home.
  • Familiarity with the 10 Culture Change Principles and a commitment to implementing them in daily operations.
  • Responsible stewardship of the environment and resources, contributing to a community we can all take pride in.

Physical Requirements: The role necessitates the ability to move freely, lift or push up to 25 lbs., stoop, kneel, and reach. Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English is essential. Visual and auditory capabilities, or the use of prosthetics, must be sufficient to meet the demands of the position. Exposure to typical eldercare conditions, including unpleasant sights and odors, may occur. The role may involve potential risks associated with working in a long-term care setting.
