Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to join our team at Tri C Company Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing duties and assisting with the repair and maintenance of grounds equipment at assigned locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain grounds equipment, including automobiles, trucks, off-road and mechanical equipment, vehicles, tractors, mowers, machinery, and small engines.
  • Complete welding projects and equipment repair using MIG, Stick, and/or TIG welders, as well as cutting torches.
  • Promote preventive maintenance as a strategy for maintaining grounds equipment by developing and recommending preventive maintenance programs and schedules, instructing grounds employees on the proper methods of operation and upkeep of the equipment.
  • Operate necessary equipment, including riding lawn mowers, tractors, front-end loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, rollers, power sprayers, stump grinders, cherry pickers, vehicle trailers, and various other utility vehicles with attachments.
  • Direct Maintenance Mechanic Helpers or Yard Maintenance Mechanic Helpers who assist in the completion of projects.
  • Meet all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position.
  • Maintain records for vehicle and equipment inspections, maintenance logs, spare parts inventory, and other pertinent documents.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of work experience in a maintenance mechanic environment as a commercial/industrial Maintenance Mechanic - OR - a completed vocational or apprenticeship program.
  • Automobile and Light Truck Technician Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE Certification).
  • Knowledge of all types of tools in the trade.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed work and safety instructions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Skills in keyboarding, basic math, and grammar, and basic or standard word processing (MS Word) and/or spreadsheet applications (MS Excel).
  • Proficiency with an email software package (MS Outlook) and the Internet.
  • Valid Ohio Driver's license.
  • Must be able to meet College insurability requirements.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a job-related field.
  • Ability to direct a small work crew.
  • Experience with electronic work order system.
  • Understanding/experience with quality programs and initiatives.
  • Trade licensure or certification.
  • LTO (Lift-Truck-Operator) license.
  • Welding Certification.
  • Commercial Pesticide Applicator licensure.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands

The successful candidate must be able to occasionally sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste and smell. Must be able to frequently stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance. Must be able to occasionally work in wet or humid conditions, work in high precarious places, work with fumes or airborne particles, toxics or caustic chemicals, work in extreme cold and heat (non-weather) and work with risk of electrical shock, vibration, and bio-hazards. Must be able to regularly work near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions. Must be able to work in an environment with a loud noise level.

Special Note: This is a Full-time AFSCME Bargaining Unit position, Grade 06, 1st shift. AFSCME Employees employed with Community College will be considered first for vacant positions.

Target Hiring Rate: Minimum $54,567.55/annually
