GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, this role entails performing advanced building maintenance and construction tasks, focusing on park operations, upkeep, and visitor services at Eisenhower State Park. Responsibilities include executing all aspects of maintenance for facilities, structures, vehicles, equipment, and grounds.
Utilizes various equipment such as power mowers, tools, tractors, and other gasoline-powered machinery. Engages in customer service activities, issues park permits, and manages fee collection responsibilities. Oversees the work of community service personnel, volunteer staff, and other alternative workforce members.
Assists in enforcing park regulations, conducts resource management activities, and interprets the park's natural resources. Works under general supervision, exercising moderate discretion and independent judgment. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary. Adheres to all Agency, Division, and Branch policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or GED.
Experience: A minimum of three years in facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance.
Licensure: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid State driver's license within 30 days of employment.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:
Experience: Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years allowed for substitution.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Background in public interaction; experience in customer service and/or public relations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Familiarity with basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.
Understanding of general maintenance techniques and custodial duties.
Proficiency in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to operate hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators, and other mechanical equipment.
Capability to provide quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and related contacts.
Ability to make independent, sound, and timely decisions.
Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
Competence in accurately handling cash and accounting for collected revenue.
Flexibility to manage frequent interruptions and shifting priorities.
Ability to assist in enforcing park rules and regulations.
Physical capability to perform manual labor, including grounds, facility, and trail maintenance.
Knowledge of safe application of pesticides and herbicides in compliance with State regulations.
Ability to lift supplies and materials weighing up to 80 lbs.
Conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety protocols.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Required to work in a public park setting with overnight camping and day-use facilities.
Must be available for a 40-hour work week, which may include flexible schedules outside of standard hours and days off that are not limited to weekends or holidays.
Must be prepared to respond to emergencies and on-call situations.
Work is primarily outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
Must utilize appropriate safety procedures and equipment.
Required to operate a State vehicle and may need to travel occasionally.
Must adhere to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety protocols.
This is a non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
