Radiation Therapist

Deliver high-quality radiation therapy to patients while ensuring their safety and comfort. Meet the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in assigned clinical areas.
Key Responsibilities- Explain procedures and answer patient questions in a clear and concise manner.
- Schedule treatments in the oncology information management system and provide patients with a copy of their schedule.
- Position patients for treatment, reproducing simulation setups, and obtain required imaging while accurately delivering treatment.
- Maintain accessory medical equipment such as IVs and oxygen.
- Observe and question patients concerning nutrition status, side effects, and emotional health, and notify physicians of significant patient problems.
- Resolve questions concerning patient prescriptions with physicians.
- Review treatment records in the oncology information management system for completeness and accuracy daily, complete charts, and submit appropriate billing.
- Complete necessary quality assurance checklists in the oncology information management system, perform equipment warm-up procedures, and maintain treatment machines and accessories.
- Inform proper personnel of equipment malfunctions and perform quality control tests of equipment.
- Meet Radiation Safety requirements and policies with daily patient treatments and activities.
- Simulate new patients with the aid of physicians, determine optimum fields to cover with proper information, take treatment field photographs, and tattoo approved fields.
- Record all information needed for reliable reproduction and enter necessary information into the oncology information management system for patient simulation.
- Interpret appropriate tables to determine dosage for emergency on-call cases and calculate the number of monitor units or exposure time for each treatment session to achieve prescribed doses for emergency patients.
- Graduate from a specialty training program.
- Licensed Radiation Therapist within 3 years of hire - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Basic Life Support Certification.
