As a key member of the Radiation Oncology team, you will provide essential technical expertise to ensure that patient treatments align with the directives of the Radiation Oncologist.

You will collaborate closely with the Radiation Oncologist to identify the most effective treatment strategies.

In your role as the head of the Medical Physics department, you will oversee the Medical Physics personnel and offer leadership and direction to Oncology Services, ensuring the implementation of a robust quality assurance program.

You will also serve as the Radiation Safety Officer/MR Safety Officer for the organization.

It is vital to maintain a professional, customer-centric, and service-oriented approach, demonstrating respect, care, and dignity for all patients and colleagues; fostering a collaborative environment that consistently aims for service excellence.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A Master's degree in Science, Physics, Radiation Science, or Medical Physics is required.
A Doctorate is preferred.
Certification as a Part Two Board Certified Radiation Physicist (American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physicists) is mandatory.
A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the clinical practice of Medical Physics is essential.

Must meet the qualifications for the State of New York Department of Health as a Radiation Safety Officer and Authorized Medical Physicist, as mandated for radioactive materials licensing.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position is primarily indoors under standard working conditions. The candidate should be capable of pushing/pulling 25 lbs., lifting/moving 15 lbs. from floor to table, and performing moderately challenging manual tasks such as typing, writing, and filing for extended periods.

Mobility requirements may include the ability to sit at a computer workstation for prolonged durations, as well as the capacity to squat, stand, and walk for reasonable distances.

Sensory requirements include the ability to articulate and comprehend spoken English, along with reading proficiency in the English language.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Ensure compliance with all relevant state and federal regulatory standards by developing and maintaining necessary documentation.

Oversee quality assurance and quality control in the Radiation Oncology treatment areas for both equipment and patients, including supervision of specialized procedures (IMRT, HDR, LDR, prostate seed implants, etc.).

Conduct calibration checks and surveys of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
Act as the Radiation Safety Officer and chair the Radiation Safety Committee across all facilities. Provide in-service training for hospital staff regarding the safe application of ionizing radiation. Maintain the hospital's radioactive materials license.
Perform calibration of survey instruments as required.
Conduct shielding calculations and acceptance testing for new equipment as necessary. Recommend new equipment as needed.
Provide dosimetry and treatment planning in Radiation Oncology, including the specialized procedures mentioned earlier.
Design treatment plans for intracavitary and interstitial implant procedures and assist Physicians with these tasks.
Supervise Dosimetry staff daily to ensure timely completion of treatment plans.
Educate Oncology staff and students on applied aspects of Medical Physics.
Participate in and attend weekly Chart Rounds.
Prepare and lead quarterly QA meetings.

Salary Range:
$ /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be compensated within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
