As a Staff Nurse, you will provide, prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to address the holistic needs of a designated patient group. The care environment may vary, including long-term, emergent, critical, acute, interventional, or procedural settings.

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) is required unless the candidate qualifies for Exception A or Exception B.*


• Strong communication skills are essential.

• Demonstrated initiative, teamwork, and adaptability are required.

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or a compact state is mandatory.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, obtained from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (for new hires starting January 1, 2023, or later).

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required, depending on the department.


• For Emergency Department roles, PALS certification must be obtained within six months of hire or transfer.


• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required within six months of hire or transfer, depending on the department.


• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) must be completed within one year of hire or transfer, depending on the department.

*Details on Exceptions:

EXCEPTION A: Candidates must meet all of the following criteria: (1) possess current experience relevant to the position; (2) be considered the best candidate for the role; and (3) receive written approval to hire without a BSN from the hiring Director, Nursing Practice Professional Development & Informatics Executive Director, and Chief Nursing Officer. If hired without a BSN, the candidate must either have 30 years of relevant experience or agree in writing to obtain a BSN within four years of hire.
EXCEPTION B: Candidates must meet all of the following criteria: (1) currently employed by Nebraska Medicine or eligible for rehire within 364 days of termination; (2) hired before November 21, 2014, or by an entity acquired by Nebraska Medicine before the acquisition; (3) possess relevant experience; and (4) hold a current Registered Nursing License.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Direct patient care experience is preferred.

• Relevant experience in areas such as cardiology, cardiac drip management, critical care, emergency department, medical-surgical, obstetrics, cardiovascular rehabilitation, telemetry, oncology, neonatal intensive care, pediatric acute care, solid organ transplant, cath lab, EP lab, or quality assurance in healthcare is preferred.

• A Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree is preferred.

• Additional courses such as STABLE, smoking cessation counseling, or other specialty training may be preferred based on the position.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, is preferred.

• Familiarity with email applications and departmental equipment is preferred.
