The Asphalt Paving Technician plays a crucial role in the construction and maintenance of roadways, highways, and parking facilities. The Asphalt Paving Technician will operate a distributor truck or crew vehicle as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to all safety protocols and utilizing the appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Comply with company policies and OSHA regulations to ensure a secure work setting.
  • Follow the Foreman's instructions regarding daily tasks and project expectations.
  • Collaborate with the asphalt crew to execute paving operations according to project specifications, and assist in other roles as directed by the crew foreman to meet project timelines.
  • Support the construction and paving crew with various tasks, including shoveling, raking, and flagging.
  • Handle, spread, and level construction materials as needed.
  • Lift, carry, and manage materials, tools, and supplies effectively.
  • Assist in the setup, relocation, and dismantling of traffic control devices such as signs, barricades, and cones.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures for safe work practices. Report any issues to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with the Company Attendance Policy to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and professionalism in interactions with co-workers, clients, and the public.
  • Be adaptable to last-minute changes in schedule, location, and shift times.
  • Be prepared for overtime work, including potential out-of-town assignments.
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Comply with the PPE (personal protective equipment) policy and ensure personal equipment is maintained in good condition.
  • Demonstrate the physical capability to operate equipment in varying temperatures and for extended periods, typically ranging from 8 to 12 hours.
  • Travel to and from job sites as required. If driving a company vehicle, meet the Driver Qualification Standards.
  • Utilize power and hand tools effectively to complete tasks within project specifications.
  • Follow Traffic Control Crew instructions and uphold safety standards in accordance with Company Safety Policy.
  • Drive a distributor truck or crew vehicle to and from job sites as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Class B CDL license is mandatory.
  • Ideal candidates will possess 2 or more years of experience in asphalt paving.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Exhibit strong safety awareness and a commitment to company policies and safety standards.
  • Reliable transportation is essential, with the ability to travel as needed. Availability for periodic evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime is expected.
  • Proper work attire is required, including safety vests, safety glasses when necessary, long pants, and hard-soled shoes, while maintaining a clean and professional appearance.
  • Demonstrate a cooperative and positive attitude, maintaining professionalism with supervisors, colleagues, clients, and the public.
  • A valid Driver's License is preferred.
  • Must provide documentation proving the legal right to work in the United States.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to meet the physical demands associated with heavy highway construction.
  • Adaptability to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Required physical motions include stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching, and squatting, which will occupy most of the workday.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. repetitively while employing proper lifting techniques.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, both hot and cold.
