Position Overview: The Paraeducator will collaborate closely with the Education Team to promote the safety and well-being of students engaged in the educational program. This role involves providing direct support to an individual student to ensure they receive the necessary assistance to thrive academically.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work in conjunction with the Education Team to ensure student safety and engagement in educational activities.
  • Function as an integral member of the academic and therapeutic team, assisting educators and supervising students during school hours.
  • Deliver supported instruction and assessments as directed by the teacher, tailored to the academic needs or Individual Education Plan (IEP) requirements.
  • Facilitate participation in class activities, including physical education and arts.
  • Assist with morning routines in the residential program when necessary.
  • Implement behavioral interventions within the classroom, utilizing appropriate strategies.
  • Support substitute teaching assignments as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including attendance and incident reports.
  • Oversee transitional periods, lunch, and beginning and ending school activities to ensure student accountability.
  • Engage in community-based activities and appointments as assigned.
  • Provide assistance as requested by the Dean of Students or Academic Director.
  • Participate in required professional training sessions.
  • Transport students for school-related activities as necessary.
  • Attend student meetings, such as IEPs, as assigned.
  • Participate in staff meetings as required.
  • Uphold student confidentiality and communicate pertinent information to supervisors.
  • Understand and adhere to the administrative structure and program philosophy.
  • Represent Mount Prospect Academy positively to the community and stakeholders.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Associates Degree or higher preferred.
  • Two years of experience working with children or youth is preferred, including roles such as camp counselor, coach, or babysitter.
