Position Overview

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for conducting requirements analysis and management, technical planning, systems-level design, systems integration, verification and validation, as well as cost and risk management for innovative development initiatives. This role encompasses all stages of the product development lifecycle, including concept, design, fabrication, testing, installation, operation, and maintenance. The Senior Systems Engineer will act as a Lead and Subject Matter Expert, guiding the development of new systems and components.

A successful candidate will possess experience in the implementation, integration, and qualification of cutting-edge technologies. Familiarity with passive depth sensing solutions for soldier-mounted systems is advantageous. A proven history of collaborating with new vendors or technologies and successfully integrating them into product designs is essential. Experience in leading a team of systems engineers and fostering systems engineering best practices is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate customer interactions to influence and comprehend the Voice of the Customer and product requirements.
  • Define and execute trade studies to select the most effective solutions for complex design and architectural challenges, engaging with suppliers to assess potential solutions.
  • Exemplify Sparton's core values while providing mentorship and technical leadership to the engineering team.
  • Offer guidance on Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) best practices.
  • Conduct workforce planning and resource allocation in collaboration with Engineering Functional Leadership and Human Resources.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with other Sparton's Business Units.
  • Thoroughly understand the systems engineering process.
  • Ensure that lessons learned are identified and integrated into standard processes.
  • Support proposal development activities, including drafting proposal text, cost estimation, and presentation preparation.
  • Review, develop, and document system-level requirements, Concepts of Operations (CONOPS), and mission statements.
  • Collaborate with all technical functions to develop and document product architectures that meet technical, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Perform requirements management, analysis, and allocation for complex systems design.
  • Effectively document and communicate designs, results, reports, and presentations.
  • Produce and/or review technical documents, specifications, and standards.
  • Research, conceptualize, and evaluate complex system architectures and product designs, recommending modifications to enhance performance, cost, reliability, and development timelines.
  • Lead system integration efforts, including hands-on evaluation of prototypes.
  • Plan and support verification and validation activities for complex system designs to ensure compliance with functional specifications and customer requirements.
  • Prepare and/or deliver technical presentations to stakeholders.
  • Maintain regular and clear communication with customers and other relevant parties.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with internal and external organizations.
  • Recommend tools to enhance systems engineering design processes and procedures.
  • Fully understand internal systems engineering protocols and mentor junior engineers.
  • Familiarity with Agile product development methodologies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Hold an accredited Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Electro-optical, Software or Systems Engineering, Applied Physics, or other related engineering disciplines.
  • 15+ years of systems engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree or 12+ years with a Master's degree.
  • Must be an effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with requirements management tools, such as JAMA, is required.
  • Familiarity with CMMI, AS 9100, and ISO 9000 process development.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.
Required Skills
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and tools.
  • Capability to adapt to widely used modeling and requirements management tools as necessary.
  • Ability to integrate into a small, high-performing engineering team.
  • Possess a high level of professional knowledge and skills to resolve product, process, and system design challenges.
  • Applied hands-on implementation expertise in product system architecture and requirements management tools.
  • Ability to effectively manage customer expectations and comprehend their requirements.
  • Ability to prepare successful customer proposals.
