Job Title: Software Engineer

Canonical is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our data platform team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our automation suite for multi-cloud and on-premise data solutions.

About the Role

We are looking for a talented engineer who has hands-on experience in software development using Python and distributed systems. You will work collaboratively with our team to create high-quality, idiomatic Python code to create new features, debug issues, and interact with upstream communities publicly.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with a distributed team to design and develop automation features
  • Write high-quality Python code to create new features and debug issues
  • Interact with upstream communities publicly to resolve issues and improve code
  • Work with experts in various fields to discuss ideas and find solutions
  • Travel globally for 2-4 weeks per year for internal and external events
Requirements
  • Proven hands-on experience in software development using Python
  • Proven hands-on experience in distributed systems
  • Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events
Additional Skills
  • Experience operating and managing data platform technologies like PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, OpenSearch, Kafka, Yugabyte, Trino, Superset, Atlas, Ranger, and Redis
  • Experience with Linux systems administration, package management, and operations
  • Experience with public cloud or private cloud solutions like OpenStack
  • Experience with operating Kubernetes clusters and a belief in its use for persistent data services
