As a Mammography Radiologic Specialist, you will operate advanced mammography imaging equipment to conduct diagnostic and screening examinations. You will also perform various diagnostic x-ray procedures as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Radiologists to confirm the specifics of required examinations and ensure the highest quality of imaging results.
- Examine and correlate previous imaging reports, utilizing Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System lexicons to determine the appropriate procedures.
- Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures in understandable terms to alleviate any pre-exam anxiety.
- Conduct mammography examinations in accordance with established protocols and standards, adjusting imaging equipment to achieve optimal exposure.
- Assist physicians during specialized mammographic image-guided interventions, including stereotactic biopsies and contrast-enhanced mammography.
- Perform general x-ray examinations, including bone density assessments, as required.
- Handle specimen imaging when necessary, ensuring proper labeling and documentation is sent to Pathology.
- Monitor patients' conditions in line with technical and safety standards, promptly reporting any abnormalities to the Radiologist or nursing staff.
- Complete all necessary documentation throughout the examination process.
- Operate equipment for transferring images to film or digital formats.
- Ensure images are accurately marked and labeled with patient identification and date, verifying patient information through the modality worklist.
- Input patient history and relevant details from requisitions into the system.
- Maintain imaging equipment, making adjustments as needed and reporting any mechanical issues to management.
- Oversee supply inventory in the designated area.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the procedure room.
- Perform additional related duties as required, with all responsibilities considered essential functions of the role.
- Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology program is required.
- Licensure as a Radiologic Technologist from the New York State Department of Health is required.
- Registration in Mammography through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
- A minimum of 200 mammography examinations performed in the last 24 months is required.
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required.
