Position Overview

The Butcher Specialist is tasked with ensuring that the meat display cases are well-stocked and maintained during operational hours. This role involves assisting customers as needed while upholding a friendly and energetic attitude. Adherence to all procedural guidelines established by the Meat Department is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the presentation and organization of meat cases, ensuring product facing, filling, and accurate pricing.
  • Uphold cleanliness in meat aisles, storage areas, and workspaces to ensure safety, including cleaning shelves and keeping floors clear of spills.
  • Monitor the rotation of meat products, paying close attention to expiration dates.
  • Engage positively with customers, assisting them with inquiries and purchases at the meat counter, including selling and cross-selling products.
  • Receive, inspect, and document products for shipment accuracy, temperature, and quality.
  • Operate various equipment such as knives, scales, and packaging machines.
  • Ensure proper temperature maintenance throughout the meat and seafood production process.
  • Prepare and package all required meat and seafood products for daily operations.
  • Organize and rotate meat products in coolers and freezers.
  • Utilize knowledge of weights and measures to accurately label and package meat products.
  • Prepare specialty meat and seafood items according to established recipe standards.
  • Follow safety protocols while using cutting tools and equipment.
  • Participate in inventory preparation, ensuring back stock accuracy and proper tagging.
  • Maintain a high level of product knowledge and preparation skills.
  • Regularly inspect the department to ensure an organized and sanitary appearance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience, preferably in grocery retail within the Meat Department.
  • Previous experience in the natural foods sector is advantageous.
  • Completion of a journeyman cutter program or apprenticeship is preferred.
