Job Overview:
The Electrical Control Systems Engineer is responsible for delivering essential electrical controls support to ensure the seamless operation of Heavy Duty Engine (HDE) Machining Operations. This role involves working collaboratively with various teams to maintain the functionality of machining equipment across multiple lines, including Blocks, Connecting Rods, Heads, Liners, and Turbo Machining & Assembly Operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose, modify, and enhance hardware and software for PLC, CNC, HMI, and robotic control systems.
  • Support and troubleshoot device-level networks.
  • Oversee the troubleshooting and modification of servo and variable frequency drive systems.
  • Implement and maintain machining monitoring systems, focusing on integration with higher-level systems.
  • Apply control technologies to both new and existing processes to optimize machining solutions.
  • Specify and manage control designs for the procurement of new machining equipment.
  • Provide technical assistance and support for machining operations.
  • Collaborate with Skilled Trades, Supervisors, and Process Engineers to diagnose and repair CNC and Assembly Machining Operations.
  • Assist Skilled Trades personnel in interpreting technical drawings and OEM documentation for troubleshooting and repairs.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field, or 8 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong proficiency in manufacturing equipment hardware and software design practices, including PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, and robotics.
  • Familiarity with PC hardware and commercial software applications.
  • Understanding of network and database operations.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Capability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings related to building infrastructure and testing equipment.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with Siemens Step 7 PLCs / TIA Portal, Siemens 840D NC Programming, and Siemens VFDs.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc robots, Cognex vision systems, and Trumpf laser systems.
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs and VFDs.
  • Understanding of fluid systems, including pneumatic, hydraulic, and lubrication systems.
  • Awareness of metal cutting and various machining processes.
  • Experience with Maximo, SAP, and Outlook.
