Job Summary

The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings, requiring practical skill and knowledge in various trades such as HVAC, painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Replace electrical ballast, lamps, receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors
  • Use plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings
  • Repair or replace sinks, water coolers, and toilets
  • Paint structures and equipment
  • Repair or replace concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks
  • Replace damaged paneling and floor tiles
  • Hang doors and install door locks
  • Replace broken window panes
  • Perform general maintenance on equipment and machinery
  • Cultivate and care for landscaping and grounds surrounding the facility
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three or more years of experience in the general maintenance trade
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and tools of the general maintenance trade
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable building codes and specifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the general maintenance trade
  • Ability to read, interpret, prepare, and work from plans, drawings, and sketches
  • Ability to perform and instruct others in a variety of skilled general maintenance work
  • Ability to make accurate estimates of time and materials required to complete a job
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Preferred Qualifications
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Course
  • 8-Hour HAZWOPER refresher
  • Lead Awareness course completion
  • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures
