Job Summary:

Washington Elementary School District No. 6 is seeking a skilled Occupational Therapist to join our Special Services team. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in helping students with special needs achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

Screen, evaluate, plan, and administer individual or group therapy programs to students with special needs.
Consult with other medical personnel and parents to evaluate special needs and develop effective treatment plans.
Perform tests and measurements to determine student status, establish performance baselines, and set new goals.
Interpret findings and record data in student files, including maintaining a file system for students and tracking their progress.
Supervise therapy assistants and aides, assigning and monitoring their work.
Consult with physicians and other health professionals to obtain additional information and make recommendations and referrals to other agencies.
Stay current on new methods and techniques by participating in professional groups and attending meetings.
Develop and implement written educational plans for individuals based on evaluations, including evaluating and revising programs as needed.
Provide students and families with home programs to enhance the carry-over of therapeutic objectives.
Provide in-service training to school staff and parents, presenting new materials, describing new processes, and demonstrating new procedures.

Requirements:

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications:
Two years of experience as an occupational or physical therapist, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Interpreting and implementing therapeutic theories and practices;
Making group presentations;
Instructing others in techniques and procedures;
Using testing and measuring methods in evaluating students;
Assigning and monitoring the work of support staff;
Screening and evaluating students with disabilities or special needs;
Interpreting medical terminology;
Revising, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic programs;
Interpersonal communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
