This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement initiative. Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria in accordance with VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within the designated timeframe following appointment. To qualify, candidates must fulfill the basic requirements along with any additional specifications outlined in the job announcement.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Must be a United States Citizen; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not feasible to recruit qualified citizens as per VA Policy.
  2. Possession of a Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
  3. Current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical practice license.
  4. Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
  5. Proficiency in both spoken and written English.

Additional Qualifications: Board Certification in Family or Internal Medicine and Rheumatology is required.

Physical Standards: Applicants must meet the physical requirements for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is mandatory. This position is subject to drug testing. Physical demands include lifting 15-44 pounds, pushing for approximately 2 hours, reaching above shoulder level, manual dexterity with both hands, and walking or standing for 3-5 hours, including kneeling.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient environments.
  2. Diagnose and treat diseases associated with Rheumatologic conditions.
  3. Manage ongoing care for patients with various Rheumatologic disorders.
  4. Conduct inpatient Rheumatology consultations and follow-ups.
  5. Perform outpatient Rheumatology consultations and follow-ups.
  6. Execute Rheumatology procedures as necessary.
  7. Order and interpret diagnostic imaging studies and laboratory tests.
  8. Engage in performance improvement initiatives and attend required meetings.
  9. Manage patients requiring biologics and IV bisphosphonates.
  10. Review patient no-shows and follow up on abnormal lab results.

Work Schedule: The work schedule will be discussed with the Supervisor.
