Position OverviewThe Gastrointestinal Lab Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in delivering nursing care to patients undergoing various gastrointestinal procedures, including but not limited to endoscopies and colonoscopies. This position demands a commitment to providing safe, effective, and high-quality care throughout the patient’s experience.
Key Responsibilities- Patient Assessment: Evaluate patient needs prior to procedures and provide comprehensive explanations regarding the processes involved, including potential risks and benefits.
- Medication Administration: Administer necessary pre-procedure medications and vigilantly monitor vital signs during the procedures.
- Assisting Physicians: Support the physician during procedures by managing instruments, retracting tissues, and providing suctioning as required.
- Monitoring: Observe patient conditions throughout the procedures and promptly report any changes or concerns to the physician.
- Post-Procedure Care: Administer post-procedure medications and continue to monitor vital signs during the recovery phase.
- Patient Education: Inform patients and their families about post-procedure care, including recovery instructions and follow-up requirements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the healthcare team to ensure the highest standards of patient care are met.
- Record Keeping: Maintain thorough and accurate patient records, including assessments, procedure notes, and care plans.
The ideal candidate should possess a current RN license, a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, and a minimum of two years of experience in a GI lab or a similar environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to perform effectively under pressure. A solid understanding of gastrointestinal procedures and patient care in this specialized field is also required.
