Our district is home to five elementary schools and one middle school, serving preschool to grade 8 students.

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the school principal, the Custodian will maintain assigned sites by performing routine custodial tasks and semiskilled maintenance tasks according to a prepared work schedule. This position requires a high level of independence, accuracy, and efficiency in performing a variety of cleaning and basic maintenance work.

ResponsibilitiesBuildings
  • Clean and maintain floors, walls, and windows in offices, nurse's and faculty rooms, auditoriums, and multipurpose rooms.
  • Dust and clean furniture, woodwork, and equipment.
  • Empty and clean waste containers, and sweep walks and entrances.
  • Wash, scrub, and disinfect restrooms and shower rooms.
  • Clean and polish metal work, such as door panels and hand railings.
  • Assist in moving or rearranging chairs, tables, desks, and furniture.
  • Perform minor repairs in classrooms and replace light globes.
Grounds
  • Maintain lawn, shrubs, hedges, trees, and flowers, and assist with transplanting, fertilizing, and replanting.
  • Operate and maintain power-driven equipment, such as lawn mowers and edgers.
  • Maintain playground areas and assist with repairs.
  • Remove weeds, undergrowth, and debris from school grounds and landscaped areas.
  • Sweep walks and driveways, and pick up paper and rubbish.
Requirements

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and previous experience in custodial work is preferred. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to work independently, and have a willingness to learn new semiskilled maintenance techniques.

This position will report to the Supervisor of Maintenance and Operations or designee. The work schedule is 5 days per week, 8 hours per day, from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with 12 months of service per year. The site will be assigned by the Director of Facilities, Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation.
