Position Overview
The Department of Mathematics is seeking qualified educators and professionals for part-time to full-time teaching roles. These positions may include regular lecturer roles focused on face-to-face instruction as well as the development and/or teaching of online courses. Lecturers are non-tenure-track faculty members. The availability of positions will depend on departmental needs each semester for course development and instruction.

Primary Responsibilities
The main responsibility is teaching, with no expectations for research or service obligations. The appointment duration will vary based on the specific lecturer role and the timeline for course preparation and instruction.

Application materials will be collected for consideration for teaching undergraduate mathematics courses aligned with departmental needs.

The successful candidate must possess the necessary authorization to work in the U.S. prior to employment commencement.

Regular Lecturer Responsibilities:
Part-time lecturers are expected to teach up to six credit hours, while full-time lecturers are expected to teach up to twelve credit hours of undergraduate mathematics courses each semester. They are required to take their teaching duties seriously and aim for excellence in the classroom.

100% - Deliver instruction for all scheduled class meetings. Develop assignments, administer assessments, evaluate student performance, provide constructive feedback, and assign grades. Maintain regular office hours for student consultations. The lecturer should be accessible for reasonable appointments outside of scheduled office hours. Attend departmental meetings and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures.

Online Lecturer and Course Developer Responsibilities:
Part-time online lecturers are expected to teach up to six credit hours, while full-time lecturers are expected to teach up to twelve credit hours of undergraduate mathematics courses each semester. They are required to take their teaching duties seriously and strive for excellence in the classroom.

100% - Provide instruction throughout the course term. Manage the course management site, develop assignments, create assessments, evaluate student performance, provide feedback, and assign grades. Collaborate with the relevant center to schedule assessments. Maintain regular office hours, both in-person and online, for student support. Be available for reasonable appointments outside of scheduled office hours and respond to student inquiries promptly. Follow departmental guidelines for online courses as communicated by the associate chair or course coordinator. Adhere to all relevant policies and procedures.

Some positions may involve designing an online course for the department and/or college programs. Develop the course in accordance with departmental guidelines and institutional standards, collaborating with instructional design staff. Complete the course design process within established deadlines to ensure quality review prior to the course offering.

Required Qualifications:
Evaluation of qualifications will be based on (1) work experience and educational background detailed in the application letter, (2) accomplishments and productivity as outlined in the CV, and (3) information from professional references.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field with a strong mathematics component. Include a transcript if the degree was obtained within the last five years.
  • Prior teaching experience in Mathematics at the college or university level.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous teaching experience in Mathematics at the University of Kansas.
