Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Staff Nurse I to join our team in the 7W SICU/OGT department at the University of Illinois Chicago. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality patient care, utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized patient care plans, incorporating ongoing assessment and input from patients and families.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care, sharing information and expertise to promote effective outcomes.
  • Verify and implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, and advanced practice nurses, performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Engage patients and families in education, developing plans tailored to their needs and promoting informed decision-making.
  • Recognize and respond to patient changes, prioritizing needs and adapting care accordingly.
  • Delegate tasks to support personnel, providing guidance and feedback to ensure effective care delivery.
  • Advocate for patients, families, and the nursing profession, promoting excellence in patient care and professional growth.
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities, utilizing resources and tools to optimize patient care and staff development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and promote positive learning experiences, serving as a preceptor and resource to nursing, support staff, and students.
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth and development, identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet them.
Requirements
  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit-specific certifications.
  • Effective communication skills, facilitating therapeutic relationships between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Intermediate computer skills, with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current AHA ACLS card, required or obtained within 6 months of hire if new graduate.
