SUMMARY:

The Senior Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) plays a pivotal role in managing the operations of the Speech Therapy Department under the direction of the Rehabilitation Manager.

This position involves supervising SLPs, formulating treatment plans, and providing care for both inpatient and outpatient Speech Therapy clients. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

NOTE:
The following duties are typically performed by individuals in this role. However, employees may also undertake other related responsibilities at a similar level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in this classification.

Assists the Rehabilitation Manager with various administrative functions related to SLP. May take charge of the Rehabilitation Department in the Manager's absence.


Supervises and provides guidance to staff SLPs and other support personnel to ensure the highest standards of patient care and service at John George Psychiatric Pavilion.

Evaluates, creates treatment plans, and delivers care to SLP inpatients and outpatients.

Conducts Bedside Swallow assessments and Modified Barium Swallow assessments, communicating findings to Nursing staff, physicians, patients, and their families.

Collaborates and communicates with referring physicians, support staff, therapists, department managers, and other departments such as Radiology and Nursing.

Engages with families, case managers, and health insurers as necessary.

Oversees the operational flow of the SLP Department, including management of supplies, staffing, scheduling, and organization of departmental processes.

May participate in hospital committees and represent the SLP Department in interdepartmental initiatives.

Attends, engages in, and contributes to in-service educational programs and performance improvement initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
A Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Speech Language Pathology.

Minimum Experience:
A minimum of two years of full-time experience as a Speech Language Pathologist.

Required Licenses/Certifications:
BLS - Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Required Licenses/Certifications:
Valid licensure with the California Board of Speech Language Pathology or be a license applicant.
