Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team at Providence Swedish First Hill. As a Child Life Specialist, you will provide emotional and social support to patients and their families by conducting educational and recreational programs that minimize the psychological trauma for hospitalized infants, children, and adolescents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patients' fears and anxieties regarding hospitalization and develop appropriate coping mechanisms.
  • Create therapeutic plans for patients that incorporate developmentally appropriate intervention and play activities.
  • Conduct medical play with patients to facilitate their understanding of medical procedures and reduce anxiety.
  • Initiate and maintain supportive professional relationships with patients and their families.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care conferences and provide in-services to nursing staff, students, and community agencies.
  • Document patient observations and make recommendations for play intervention.
  • Collaborate with other child life specialists and provide coverage when necessary.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a related field.
  • National Certified Child Life Specialist - Association of Child Life Professionals.
  • Two years of clinical experience preferred.
