Job Summary

This position is for an ambulatory clinical pharmacist with our Specialty Pharmacy Fulfillment Service (SPFS) in Temple, TX (or remotely from our Dallas, TX office).

SPFS is a service where a clinic-embedded pharmacy team proactively assists with medication access barriers and offers clinical support for specialty prescriptions under the pharmacy benefit.

The pharmacist serves as a clinical resource for the assigned clinic(s) and works with a pharmacy technician to complete benefit investigations, prior authorizations/appeals, patient assistance program enrollments, and patient education over the prescribed specialty medications.

This is not a compounding or dispensing role.

The Pharmacist will support the Infectious Disease Clinics for the Temple and Greater Austin regions.

Essential Functions of the Role

Ensures that patient pharmaceutical care meets standards of safety, effectiveness, patient rights, and customer service.

Compounds or admixes ingredients appropriately, including IV admixtures, small and large volume solutions, syringes, and irrigation solutions in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Consults and educates patients and/or patient caregivers concerning possible medications, including alternative sources of drug therapy.

Reviews medications for accuracy, appropriateness, and interactions, and adjusts medications per approved protocols.

Dispenses medications and compounds in accordance with organizational policy and regulatory guidelines.

Key Success Factors

Expert understanding of Pharmacy Care modalities, pharmaceutical calculations, therapies, terminology, drug use, and aseptic techniques, standards, medications, and equipment.

Ability to research, analyze, and disseminate information.

Ability to understand, optimize, and document complex processes.

Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy
  • Experience: 3 years of experience
  • Certification/License/Registration: Pharmacist (RPH): Must have 3 years of work experience or be Residency Trained
