Position Summary:

The Estimator III is responsible for evaluating contract documents, plans, specifications, proposals, and other relevant materials to assess costs related to precast concrete projects. The role involves critical analysis and collaboration to ensure accurate estimations.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports directly to the Division Vice President and General Manager, receiving independent and strategic oversight.

Supervisory Duties:

Oversees the Division Estimators.

Key Responsibilities:

All employees must adhere to safety and quality protocols to maintain a secure work environment and produce high-quality products. The Estimator III will:
  • Review contract documents to identify the precast scope of work, typically involving projects such as parking structures, educational facilities, correctional institutions, and other innovative concrete applications.
  • Conduct precise takeoffs of precast components.
  • Utilize Excel to analyze costs associated with plant operations, freight, and field activities.
  • Prepare comprehensive estimates for management, sales, planning, engineering, and field operations to facilitate scheduling, bidding, vendor contracting, and cost evaluation.
  • Understand engineering principles related to structural concepts, connections, component limitations, and constructability.
  • Collaborate with engineering and project management to monitor project developments.
  • Conduct specialized studies to establish standard hours and related cost data for effective cost reduction.
  • Engage with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders to discuss estimates and resolve inquiries from sales personnel.
  • Work with internal teams to gain support and commitment for cost estimates.
  • Create 3-D precast concepts from 2-D contract drawings.
  • Perform cost analysis on precast framing systems and explore value engineering options.
  • Maintain a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support historical data analysis.
  • Review completed projects to compare estimated costs with actual expenses and identify discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with Field and Trucking departments to ensure timely product delivery.
  • Evaluate project feasibility to confirm it aligns with precast standards.
  • Provide recommendations for improving cost estimating procedures to minimize future discrepancies.
  • Identify cost trends to assist management in process improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Foster relationships with Production to ensure project alignment.
  • Handle confidential information related to estimates.

Decision-Making Authority:

The Estimator III is expected to make independent decisions regarding the adjustment of estimates as necessary for approval.

Qualifications:

Education:
Associate degree (2 years) along with relevant experience or training is required.

Experience:
7 to 10 years of related experience and education or equivalent is required.

Supervisory Experience:
  • A minimum of 4 years in a similar supervisory role is required.
