About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pathologist Assistant to join our team at Mount Sinai Health System. As a Pathologist Assistant, you will play a critical role in the receipt, preparation, and examination of surgical tissue specimens and autopsies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist pathologists in the preparation and performance of human surgical specimen dissection and gross description.
  • Coordinate and/or perform small and large gross descriptions and dissections of surgical and autopsy specimens.
  • Assure appropriate specimen accessioning, obtain clinical history, lab data, x-rays, and scans when needed.
  • Coordinate frozen section activities with late dissections; assist in the Frozen Section Laboratory.
  • Prepare tissues for microscopic examination.
  • Assist in the preparation and performance of human postmortem examination with subsequent dissection, submission of samples, and dictation of gross findings.
  • Assure that all specimens are appropriately logged, processed, and disposed of in a timely and safe manner.
  • Gather data and prepare statistical reports such as turnaround time and data analysis.
  • Provide instructions to residents and surgical fellows on appropriate processing of large specimens dissections.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science with at least 5 years of experience as a Pathologist Assistant or Bachelor's or Master's degree in Pathology Assistant program with no experience.
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology Certification (ASCP) as a Pathologists Assistant preferred.
  • 1 year surgical grossing and autopsy experience.
