Position Overview:
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) collaborates closely with physicians to formulate comprehensive anesthesia care strategies.

This role involves administering IV sedation, monitored anesthesia care, and various forms of anesthesia—general, regional, or local—across a spectrum of surgical, obstetric, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures.

Vigilantly monitors patients and is trained to execute Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), ventilation, or life support interventions during critical situations within the Medical Center.

Responsible for managing patients' physiological states while under anesthesia, the CRNA takes prompt corrective actions as necessary or as instructed by a supervising physician.

This position may also involve assisting with additional departmental or professional responsibilities as designated by the Anesthesiology Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
(25%)* Conduct thorough pre-anesthetic assessments and preparations.

(25%)* Equip the Operating Room (OR) for all anesthesia types.

(25%)* Administer, oversee, and monitor anesthesia care throughout induction, maintenance, and recovery phases.

(25%)* Deliver post-anesthesia care and assessments.

Additional Duties:
Implement essential safety measures to ensure the secure administration of anesthesia.

Identify and pursue opportunities for enhancing quality, including patient outcomes and operational efficiencies within the Department.

Provide clinical assistance to other departments as needed.

Perform other tasks as assigned.

Certifications and Licenses:
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Educational Requirements:
A Master's Degree is required.

Knowledge of anesthesia principles is typically acquired through the completion of an accredited nurse anesthesia program culminating in certification and licensure in the State of Michigan. Candidates may also be in the process of completing final coursework and awaiting State Board examinations.



Experience, Training, and Skills:


Strong written, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with individuals and groups at all levels, ensuring ideas and concepts are conveyed clearly.

Demonstrates proficiency in performing both basic and advanced anesthesia skills.


These skills may include, but are not limited to: Adult and pediatric venipuncture, arterial line placement, medication calculation and effects, sterile techniques, airway management, and administration of regional anesthetics.

Compliance with all Medical Center policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook is required.

MyMichigan Health emphasizes technology, and employees must demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows. Participation in further learning opportunities may be required.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to manage stressful situations, including those involving public interaction, trauma, grief, and loss.

Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment, including latex materials or appropriate substitutes as necessary for the role.


Must be able to navigate the facility with or without assistance and perform the functions of the job as described.

Overall vision and hearing capabilities are necessary, with or without assistive devices.

Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods may be required, along with regular postural adjustments such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.

Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials is a possibility. Adherence to MyMichigan Health's bloodborne pathogen and TB testing protocols is mandatory.


Ability to manage multiple tasks, collaborate effectively with others, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and remain alert is essential.

Overall dexterity is required, including handling, reaching, grasping, and feeling, with potential repetition of these movements on a regular basis.

Physical Demand Level:
Light.

Must be able to occasionally lift or carry 11-20 lbs. (0-33% of the workday) and frequently (34-66% of the workday) manage 10 lbs. while walking, standing, pushing, or pulling arm/leg controls.
