Critical Care Nurse Practitioner

Position Overview: The University of Virginia is seeking dedicated full-time and part-time Advanced Practice Providers specializing in Neonatology to enhance our Pediatric Neonatology department. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a premier level 4 facility, providing exceptional care for critically ill infants from various regions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough assessments, diagnoses, and management of critically ill infants, utilizing the latest research-supported practices.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, participating in patient presentations during rounds and attending high-risk deliveries.
- Perform essential critical care procedures and provide overnight in-house coverage as required.
- Educate and mentor medical students and residents, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
- Exercise independent judgment in patient assessment and management, adhering to the standards set by the UVA Health System.
Clinical Duties:
- Document comprehensive health histories and physical assessments, initiating emergency therapies as necessary.
- Formulate diagnoses and communicate effectively with the healthcare team regarding patient care.
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including laboratory tests and imaging, in consultation with colleagues.
- Prescribe medications and treatments in compliance with Virginia's prescriptive regulations.
- Provide education and support to patients and families about disease processes and treatment plans.
Professional Development:
- Engage in continuous education through conferences, lectures, and professional development opportunities.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to established medical center policies.
- Contribute to the training of students and interns, enhancing their clinical experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree from an accredited nursing or physician assistant program.
- Experience: A minimum of one to two years of NICU experience as an Advanced Practice Provider is preferred.
- Licensure: Must hold or be eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider in Virginia, with all necessary credentials maintained.
Physical Requirements: The role requires prolonged standing, frequent bending, and the ability to lift and move patients as necessary. Candidates should be prepared for exposure to various clinical environments.
