Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Assistant is a crucial role at St. Luke's Laboratories, responsible for supporting pre-analytical and post-analytical functions. This position promotes quality and patient safety while performing specimen collection and processing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gain competencies in collection, receiving, and distribution of specimens and samples to the appropriate area.
  • Perform day-to-day tasks of information collection, correlation, and distribution to the appropriate area.
  • Provide exceptional customer service functions within the laboratory.
Requirements
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of lab experience or CNA, or MA.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six (6) months Phlebotomy, or one (1) year of medical laboratory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Computerized data management systems, including operation of a computerized data management system.
  • Routine billing procedures.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to patient information.
  • Customer service skills, including ability to effectively greet the public, work well with patients and Hospital employees, and communicate effectively with all kinds of people.
  • Ability to accurately maintain sample and report identity using patient name and identification number through sample receipt, processing, and reporting.
  • Ability to follow directions and perform tasks outlined in procedure.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and take responsibility to maintain patient health and safety during specimen collection.
  • Ability to organize work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow through internet search of tests.
Physical Demands and Environment
  • Ability to see, hear, and speak in English.
  • Ability to lift up to thirty-five (35) pounds.

  • Sit - Frequently 1/3 to 2/ hours)
