Job Summary:

The Certified Medication Aide position at Cantex is a critical role that requires a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care. As a Medication Aide, you will be responsible for administering medications to patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with state and federal regulations and facility policy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the five rights of medication administration.
  • Take and record vital signs of patients as assigned or as may be required by certain medications.
  • Record the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately.
  • Observe for and report any reactions and/or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse or the appropriate shift.
  • Administer PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.
  • Document reason for and response to PRN medications in a timely manner.
  • May dispense narcotics and must account for them under the supervision of the licensed (or charge) nurse per facility policy.
  • Properly secure medication carts/medication rooms per state and federal regulations and facility policy.
  • Attend facility education in-services.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • May make observation rounds under the supervision of the licensed nurse (or charge nurse) on the shift.
  • May supervise nursing assistants/orderlies as assigned by the charge nurse (or charge nurse) on the shift.
  • Ensure that medication room, med carts and medication refrigerators are kept clean and well organized.
  • Ensure that any expired medications are removed for destruction per facility policy and procedures.
  • Attend Quality Assurance meetings per request.
  • Ability to function as a Team Leader/Role Model.
  • Has reviewed Cantex Continuing Care Networks Clinical Policies and Procedures for Abuse Prevention and knows the employee's responsibility to enforce it.
  • Responsible for assuring patient/resident safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
