We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team at Round Lake Area Schools District 116. Key Responsibilities- Communicate with families, staff, and community liaisons to interpret and facilitate the transfer of health data.
- Change dressings and administer medications as needed.
- Counsel staff, parents, and students regarding health needs, including pregnant and parenting teens.
- Initiate and maintain student health records, including immunization records.
- Distribute and maintain records of controlled drugs and ensure their security.
- Document nursing interventions on medical records.
- Ensure cleanliness of equipment and environment.
- Establish, maintain, review, and update student health records on an ongoing basis.
- Facilitate connections to community primary health and dental providers, and arrange transportation and funding for health and dental appointments as needed.
- Implement the nursing process with students, including carrying out physician orders regarding diet, medication, and treatment, and performing assessments.
- Instruct students, staff, and family members regarding treatments, nursing plans, and related patient care issues.
- Interpret medical records to school staff as necessary.
- Interpret vision and hearing results, including tympanometry, and determine the need for rescreening or referral.
- Monitor ongoing hearing and vision concerns.
- Keep current on local, state, and national health issues and concerns.
- Maintain availability of medications and supplies.
- Maintain records and make reports, including records for third-party billings.
- Make decisions in routine cases.
- Monitor and ensure quality care through observation and evaluation.
- Organize and facilitate community advisory boards regarding input, review, and approval of health plans.
- Provide direct care and assessment of children in the classrooms, including lice screening.
- Provide health counseling and report on physiological and mental health status of students.
- Respond to emergencies and review and assess health histories, medical information, including state-mandated immunizations.
- Review and facilitate health evaluations of children and families.
- Review objective data, such as temperature, color, and lung sounds, to determine the state of health.
- Supervise and provide for the administration of medications as needed.
- Teach various health-related issues, such as bloodborne pathogens, puberty issues, and hygiene, to students and staff.
- Work with staff and community medical resources to link health and medical needs.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification preferred.
- Child Hearing and Vision Testing Certification preferred.
- Fluency in Spanish and English is preferred.
- Experience working in a school environment preferred.
Individuals appointed to this assignment must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the assignment.
